Research Chair on International Francophonie and the Health of Immigrants and Refugees from Francophone Sub-Saharan Africa

Assistant professor and clinician in the University of Ottawa’s Department of Family Medicine and researcher at the Montfort Research Institute

The chair aims to examine what we know about the physical and mental health of immigrants and refugees currently living in Francophone countries. Its research focuses, among other things, on the social determinants of health, such as sources of health-care injustice and the strategies implemented by regional authorities to facilitate access to, and encourage the use of, health care. The ultimate objective of this research program is to describe the state of physical and mental health of recent immigrants and refugees from sub-Saharan Africa now living in Ontario, France, and Francophone Belgium, to provide them with appropriate health care. The program relies on major partnerships with African researchers to better understand the health needs of Francophones from sub-Saharan Africa.
