University of Ottawa biology professor Jules Blais is the founding editor-in-chief of FACETS, the first and only multidisciplinary open access science journal in Canada. The publication was recently named the official journal of the Royal Society of Canada’s Academy of Science, the first time the Society has endorsed a journal in its 135-year history. Professor Blais talks about the meaning of this distinction.

Mona Nemer has been elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, joining the likes of singer John Legend, actor Carol Burnett and mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani in this year’s class.
Under the guidance of Professors Jeremy de Beer and Chidi Oguamanam, The Open African Innovation Research (Open AIR) network has received funding from the Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Advanced Scholars Program (QES) to create new opportunities for emerging scholars to explore African innovation through the lens of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
