OTTAWA, June 20, 2012 — McMaster University presented an honorary doctorate of science degree to Nancy Edwards on June 15, 2012. A distinguished professor in the School of Nursing and the Department of Epidemiology and Community Medicine, Nancy Edwards was also the inaugural director of the Population Health (PhD) program at the University of Ottawa.
In July, 2008, she was appointed as scientific director for the Institute of Population and Public Health—one of 13 “virtual” institutes of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. A leading scientist in the field of multi-strategy and multi-level intervention in community health, her research has addressed many community health issues, including falls among seniors, heart health, tobacco use during pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and evidence-informed clinical practice.
Edwards has led numerous research teams in Canada and internationally and has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to building research capacity and transforming research knowledge into practice, programs and policies.
