The University of Ottawa Administrative Committee has named Professor Monica Gattinger of the School of Political Studies new director of the Institute for Science, Society and Policy, effective August 24, 2015.
An internationally sought-after speaker, author and researcher, Gattinger brings with her extensive expertise in interdisciplinary research and teaching, notably in the areas of energy, culture, policy and governance. Her main focus at ISSP — which carries out research, teaching and public outreach on the relationship between society and science, technology and innovation— will be to strengthen the institute’s research capacity and national and international networks as well as oversee and expand on its recently launched collaborative master’s program, which aims to build bridges between the science and policy communities.
Gattinger succeeds inaugural director Marc Saner who, since the establishment of the ISSP in 2010, has built the institute’s capacity and reputation. The Administrative Committee would like to extend its deepest gratitude to him, as he returns to his duties as a professor in the Department of Geography.
The ISSP offers a unique, holistic and non-partisan approach to understanding the social implications of science and technology. We’re interested in how to use these different perspectives to inform science and technology policy.
