Summer Undergraduate International Research Internships (SIRI)

Status: Open

Through SIRI, the Office of the Vice-President, Research, offers undergraduate students the opportunity to complete a summer international research internship. Selected students will join a research team and complete a two- to three-month summer internship (between May and August). These students will receive a scholarship between $3,000 and $4,000 depending on the length of the internship.

How to participate

Eligibility

To be eligible, a student must:

  • Be in the third or fourth year of an undergraduate program;
    • Open to citizens or permanent residents of Canada, as well as international students.
  • Have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 7.5; and
  • Have never received a SIRI, an Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) scholarship, or an Undergraduate Student Research Awards Program (USRA) – Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

NOTE: Priority is given to students that have demonstrated academic excellence, as shown by their CGPA. 

How to apply

Submit an application through Online Scholarships and Bursaries (via uoZone) with the following documents attached to each scholarship request:

  • Student’s letter of intent:
    • The student’s letter of intent must explain the reasons for his or her interest and what he or she hopes to gain from the experience. The letter should also explain how his or her past experiences and academic background qualify him or her for this internship.
  • A letter of recommendation from a professor (upload in Online Scholarships and Bursaries); and
  • Resumé (created within Online Scholarships and Bursaries when completing application).

NOTE: Only complete applications will be considered.

Each institution will be offering different research projects in specific academic fields. Students should apply to the ones of their academic field of study:

  • National Cheng Kung University (Tainan, Taiwan)
    • Health sciences, medicine and science 
  • Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai, China)
    • Health sciences, medicine and science
  • Université de Lyon (Lyon, France)
    • Arts, education, law, management and social sciences
Selection criteria

The Centre will short-list the applicants with the highest cumulative grade point average (CGPA).

The host professors evaluate each application received for their internships and rank the applicants. An interview might be part of the selection process.
