Joe Irvine has been the Director, Innovation Support Services at uOttawa since May 2016, where he has responsibility for the overall management of collaborative research and business development teams and the promotion of industry engagement with research and technology. He has raised and managed over $10M in external funding for technology transfer, business development and entrepreneurship support at uOttawa.
From 2005 Joe served as Director, Technology Transfer and Business Enterprise (TTBE) at uOttawa and supporting contract research, technology development and new venture support including the launch of over seventy new companies.
During this period, the Ottawa Technology Transfer Network was established (2006) to link the affiliated hospital research institutions and TTBE, the Bio-Entrepreneurship workshop series was launched (2008), the Start-up Garage program for student entrepreneurs was created (2010) and, with the Faculty of Engineering and Telfer School of Management, facilitated the launch of the uOttawa E-Hub Entrepreneurship Hub (2014).
Joe has served on the boards of economic development agencies, hospital research institutes, start-up companies and on professional organizations. In 2014 Joe received the AUTM Award for Outstanding Service to the Canadian Technology Transfer Community.
