Startup Garage is pleased to announce that 13 student ventures will participate in the eighth annual Startup Garage cohort beginning in May 2016.
This year’s 13 teams were selected from 62 applicants from the Ottawa area to participate in this intensive 4-month accelerator program. The Startup Garage selection committee included representatives from post-secondary institutions, Invest Ottawa, the Ontario Centers of Excellence (OCE), Startup Garage alumni, and members of the local startup community.
Startup Garage provides young entrepreneurs from the Ottawa region with the tools and resources to launch and grow their businesses. It is a program managed by the University of Ottawa as part of the Capital Entrepreneurs program funded by the OCE Campus Linked Accelerator, the University of Ottawa Entrepreneurship Hub, and from returning Startup Garage sponsors Gowling WLG and Logan Katz LLP. The cohort will be working out of Invest Ottawa’s new home at the Innovation Center at Bayview Yards, which will provide access to additional mentorship and training. The program culminates with the Star-up Garage Rally event in September.

“This is the eight year for the Startup Garage program and the quality of applicants has increased every year.. We no longer see students with just a concept for a business” said Joe Irvine, Director, Innovation Support Services, University of Ottawa “these applicants have bootstrapped their way to key validation and traction points and, in some cases, early revenue. Each of these student run firms are well positioned so that with the help of Startup Garage they can take their business to the next level.”
