Our mandate

Innovation Support Services mission is to advance research at uOttawa for societal benefit and impact through student experiential learning and the promotion of partnerships with industry, government, the community and other stakeholders. We do this through active engagement between those that are developing new discoveries and those that may be best able to make them available for societal benefit, creating positive impacts in our economy.

 

Who we are

Our multi-faceted team at Innovation Support Services is comprised of business, legal and administrative professionals. We also have a strong foundation in the sciences and engineering, enabling us to better understand your research objectives and related needs.

Our greatest asset is our collective experience in the development, protection and commercialization of research results. We are also able to act as a guide to the essential elements required to access resources for research activities at uOttawa.

Collaborative Research

  • Provides strategic and operational leadership in the planning, development and implementation of research collaborations
  • Formulates, negotiates, reviews and approves external research sponsorship agreements
  • Leads, plans, organizes, directs and controls pre-award and immediate post-award processes for contract-funded research at uOttawa

Business Development

  • Disclosure review and assessment
  • Technology development pathways and programs
  • Commercial deployment through licensing & company formation

ISS works closely with other offices under the VP Research to provide research support to University of Ottawa faculties: Research Management Services (RMS) and Strategic Development Initiatives (SDI). But, our work could not be complete without the implication of our affiliated organizations including:
